Northern Connections Program

Initiated with the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2008, Northern Connections was a partnership between Ontario Nature, Environment North, Environmental Film Network, the Anishinabek of Gitchi Gami, Northern Ontario Sustainable Communities Partnership, the Sault Naturalists of Ontario and Michigan and the Food Security Research Network, with support from Lakehead University. Together, our goal has been to build leadership and strong networks in northern Ontario to support conservation and community sustainability efforts through:

  • Forums bringing conservation-minded individuals together
  • Online networking to help northern organizations work more effectively together
  • Capacity building among northern groups through workshops, seminars and other opportunities to learn from each other and experts in organization building
  • Using the network of organizations to reach a greater number of people with news and information regarding sustainability issues in northern Ontario
  • Sharing lessons learned regarding effective collaboration and networking.

Videos of workshops from some of our events, including the Sustainable Communities in the North Conference, the Climate Change Adaptation Conference, and the Green Economy Forum for Northern Ontario can be seen here.
