ON Nature magazine, which is published by Ontario Nature, focused on the beauty and uniqueness of the Sydenham River in their latest edition.

Two local photographers—Dawne Mudford and Herman Giethoorn had pictures of the Sydenham River featured prominently in the magazine. Mudford had the cover and Giethoorn had one of his pictures used for the two-page centre spread.

The river, which twists and turns through 165 kilometres of southwestern Ontario, is featured as the cover story for the April edition of the magazine.

Ontario Nature is one of the province’s leading environmental organizations. ON Nature magazine – the voice of Ontario Nature – is a quarterly magazine for Ontario Nature members and supporters.

Giethoorn has been involved in photography for close to 50 years, specializing in nature photography. He has done a lot photography over the years at the Sydenham River.

Giethoorn's picture in the magazine was taken on the east branch of the Sydenham, from a bridge on Oil Springs Line in early October.

The picture used is one on of Giethoorn's favourites.

“I like the scene, it's very quiet. The soft colours are very beautiful,” Giethoorn said.

Mudford lives on the Sydenham and has a passion for the river. She has done presentations and talks about the unique river in the past.

Mudford said she was thrilled that her picture, of a rainbow framing the Sydenham, was picked for the cover. The picture was taken right in front of her house.

“I never expected that they would choose a photo that I sent in. I just sent it in on a whim when somebody asked me to,” Mudford said.

“I'm excited to let people see how beautiful our river is.”
