ON Nature magazine, published by Ontario Nature, has focused on the beauty and uniqueness of the Sydenham River in its latest edition.

And two local photographers—Dawne Mudford and Herman Giethoorn – had photographs of the Sydenham featured prominently in the magazine; Mudford had the cover and Giethoorn had one of his photos used for the two-page centre spread.

The river, which twists and turns through 165 kilometres of southwestern Ontario, is featured as the cover story for the magazine’s April edition.

The magazine is published quarterly for Ontario Nature members and supporters.

Giethoorn has been involved in photography for close to 50 years, specializing in nature photography. His magazine photo was taken on the east branch of the Sydenham, from a bridge on Oil Springs Line in early October.

“I like the scene, it's very quiet. The soft colours are very beautiful,” Giethoorn said.

Mudford lives on the Sydenham and has a passion for the river.

Mudford said she was thrilled that her photo, of a rainbow framing the Sydenham, was picked for the cover. The photograph was taken in front of her house.

“I'm excited to let people see how beautiful our river is,” she said.
