I
A Disappointing End for the ESA Court Action

On May 4, the Supreme Court denied our leave application for the Endangered Species Act case. With your support, we pursued every legal avenue, but sadly, we are at the end of the line with the courts. Now, it is time to pursue other options. Thank you for supporting us throughout this difficult fight and stay tuned for the launch of our protected areas campaign later this year.

Help Us Learn About Ontario's Foxsnakes and Ratsnakes

Ontario Nature is partnering with Natural Resource Solutions Inc. to update our knowledge of eastern foxsnakes and gray ratsnakes in Halimand and Norfolk Counties. We are looking for historic observations [not previously reported to the Ontario Reptile and Amphibian Atlas (ORAA)] and recent sightings of eastern foxsnakes and gray ratsnakes within these counties. Please share your knowledge so we can improve ours. Submit your sightings through the ORAA app, our website, or to Amy Whitear.

Youth Council Springs into Action with Our Special Spaces

Join Ontario Nature’s Youth Council for the 2017 Our Special Spaces events! This spring, you can help create habitat for wild pollinators through a series of plantings in your community. Last year, hundreds of volunteers planted nearly 2,000 native wildflowers, shrubs and trees to help create healthy homes for pollinators. Don’t forget to check back for more plantings as they’re added!

On Nature Article Shortlisted for National Magazine Award

Our congratulations to Ray Ford whose feature article, The Cutting Edge, has been chosen as a finalist for the 2016 National Magazine Awards. The article, which appears in the spring 2016 issue of ON Nature, is focused on ways that farmers are helping to protect grassland birds. It was nominated in the Short Feature Writing category of the National Magazine Awards. Well done, Ray!

Walking Together for a Better World

Dozens of not-for-profit groups and their supporters joined Ontario Nature on April 29 to walk together for a better world. The walk took place at Hillcrest Park in Thunder Bay, and was a part of the worldwide People's Climate Mobilization. The Thunder Bay walk organizers - including Ontario Nature, Environment North, the Council of Canadians and CUSP - wanted to bring people together to to focus on their concern for each other and their love of the natural world. Contact Julee Boan to learn more.
