Manitouwadge Conservation Club

Town: Manitouwadge

Ontario Nature Region: Northern - West

The Manitouwadge Conservation Club was born in 1995 in response to a strong demand for this type of an organization in our community and surrounding area. We are located about 60 kilometres north of Lake Superior and Pukaskwa National Park and about mid-way between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie.

This boreal forest has an abundance of spectacular natural attractions. Popular walking tours are the waterfall excursions and the orchid hunts. Most of the waterfall trips require a guide because they are not readily road accessible. We have over 20 species of orchids in our area, including the elusive calypso and the locally rare Franklin's lady slipper, which is near the southern edge of its range here. We have had other trips to study glacial features and spring wildflowers and excursions to Pukaskwa National Park, along with snowshoe hikes and a map and compass course.
