For more than three decades, the members of our club have explored the natural attractions of our region and shared our knowledge with others through newsletters, discussions and monthly meetings. Our goal is to promote the conservation and wise use of our natural resources and we make that objective a part of all of our outings. The club publishes an excellent monthly newsletter, The Woodland Observer, and holds monthly meetings with programs related to nature lore and various aspects of the environment.
The club recently produced a publication of local Species at Risk. Among the club's other accomplishments is the formation of the Friends of Laurier Woods, a group committed to preserving for future generations the 70-hectare Laurier Woods within the city of North Bay. Another offshoot of the club is the Bird Wing, a group interested primarily in learning more about birds. This "wing" meets monthly throughout the year and organizes the annual Christmas Bird Counts (CBC) in the area. For a period of 8 years, this was the largest CBC in North America with over 1000 participants!
