Ontario Nature Region: Lake Ontario North

Willow Beach Field Naturalists (WBFN) is a community-based, charitable organization committed to the preservation of our natural heritage. The club works through advocacy, education, volunteer assistance and financing to preserve our area's flora and fauna and their natural habitats. Since our inception 50 years ago, WBFN has continued to grow both in strength and numbers. Our members all share a deep love of nature and a desire to preserve and protect our natural environment.

Peter's Woods Provincial Nature Reserve was purchased and in now maintained by the club on behalf of the public as a prime example of an original hardwood forest. Monarch butterfly tagging, an ongoing bluebird habitat program, bird counts and marsh monitoring are just some of the many conservation activities supported by WBFN. Current projects include the naturalization of Lucas Point Park, the Rice Lake Tall Grass Prairie restoration, the Northumberland Forest and Woodlot Survey, and the Ganaraska Eco-Demonstration Park.
