Lower Grand River Land Trust Inc.

Town: Cayuga

Ontario Nature Region: Carolinian East

We are a non-profit, community-based, charitable organization and one of a growing number of land trusts in Ontario. We were formed in 1991, incorporated in 1993, with property holdings of 1,600 acres. Our mandate is protection of land for its natural, cultural and agricultural values. Our area of interest is the lower third of the Grand River watershed encompassing Brantford and Brant County as well as the new Haldimand County (including former Towns of Haldimand and Dunnville).

Our goals encompass:

  • Educating the public towards the conservation and preservation of the landscape, habitat, ecology, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area,
  • Establishing, maintaining, developing and managing nature reserves, including the maintenance of physical and biological features of scientific and/or ecological interest, and,
  • Promoting scientific research and educational services related thereto.

Through education, encouragement of private stewardship and purchase or donation of lands/conservation easements, we, the Lower Grand River Land Trust, aim to maintain a priceless legacy for the communities that depend on and enjoy this valuable part of Canada.
