Kawartha Field Naturalists

Town: Lindsay/Fenelon Falls

Ontario Nature Region: Lake Ontario North

Our club, established in 1984, is very much involved in preserving our rich diversity of natural environment found in the City of Kawartha Lakes. This is done through an emphasis on educating our members as well as the community. We have projects that are directly aimed at our youth.

An important part of our business is stewardship. We are currently involved with two properties in our area that were donated to Ontario Nature by Rudolf Altberg and acquired by the club and by other donations; the 470 hectare (1160 acres) Altberg Wildlife Reserve located in "The Land Between" and the 39 hectare (96 acres) Altberg Wetland. Plans for both these areas are being developed as a partnership between Ontario Nature and our club. In the case of the wetland, a partnership with an educational institution is also involved.

We are also partnered with our community to promote awareness and education of Species at Risk in the Kawarthas.

It is our goal to have input on how our area should best be developed in the future.
