High Park Nature

Town: Toronto

Ontario Nature Region: Lake Ontario North

High Park Nature is a joint initiative of the High Park Volunteer Stewardship Program (VSP/High Park Stewards) and the High Park Natural Environment Committee. We are a communications and education umbrella group dedicated to educating and informing the park users and Toronto residents about High Park's unique natural heritage and the steps being taken to protect and restore this heritage.

Since the 1990s, our volunteers have been active in putting ecological principles into practice in the park. We work in partnership with the City of Toronto, Urban Forestry section and the High Park Greenhouse. Projects include restoring the shoreline of Grenadier Pond and the oak savanna, general planting and weed removal, and native seed collecting and plant propagation in the greenhouse, as well as holding educational sessions and advocating park policies and practices that preserve and restore the Park's natural heritage. More recently, we have established a website, which contains a wealth of information about the Park including its geology, flora, fauna, habitats and restoration efforts.
