Member Group Detail

MTM Conservation Association

Town: Wyevale

Ontario Nature Region: Huronia

The Association is comprised of individuals who feel that the natural resources of Matchedash Bay, Tiny Marsh and Marl Lake require and deserve ongoing care and management. We are involved with a number of activities including outdoor education, habitat management, hunting and retriever-dog training, organized birding and naturalist club hikes. MTM also supervises the maintenance of walking and snowmobile trails.

MTM works closely in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ducks Unlimited (Canada). Matchedash Bay and Tiny Marsh have been designated as internationally recognized Important Bird Areas, primarily due to the relatively large number of least bitterns and black terns that regularly nest in these wetlands. Matchedash Bay is also recognized as a Ramsar site due to its significance as a staging areas for waterfowl migration. We have also been involved in the planning of a prescribed burn of the burr oak/prairie savannah at Matchedash Bay.
