Member Group Detail

Midland-Penetang Field Naturalists

Town: Midland-Penetang

Ontario Nature Region: Huronia

The club was founded in 1961 and draws members from 11 villages and two towns in our vicinity. Many of our members have been and continue to be instrumental in helping the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre. We work to protect and preserve wildlife and the environment, and to stimulate public interest in and promote protection and preservation of nature. Our objective is to study and appreciate nature and to share that appreciation with others.

Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre. A guest speaker is a feature of each meeting. In addition, field trips to areas of interest are organized on a regular basis. These have included a trip to the white-tailed deer wintering yard at Hemlock Grove in Awenda Provincial Park with naturalist Tim Tulley, a tour of the Wye Marsh’s swan facilities and a hike into the Thiffault Cell and Matchedash Bay led by Sid and Dorothy Haddlington. Long-term projects include Highway Cleanup under the Highways Adoption scheme and maintenance of the ID Trail at Wye Marsh.
