Friends of Wye Marsh Inc.

Town: Midland

Ontario Nature Region: Huronia

The Friends of Wye Marsh work to spark a commitment to conserving wetlands, woodlands and wildlife by creating exiting learning opportunities in a natural setting. The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is a non-profit centre committed to connecting people to nature and promoting an understanding of the vital role wetlands play within the environment.

Year-round educational programs for all ages and interests are designed to kindle the appreciation and enjoyment of this unique wildlife habitat. Outdoor features of the Wye Marsh include: canoe excursions, guided walks, a large trail system, floating boardwalk, Trumpeter Swan re-introduction program, summer day camp, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Our indoor display hall features live amphibians and reptiles and a lovely gift shop. The Wye Marsh is currently working towards accessibility for persons with disablities. Many of our trails are accessible and some mobility devices are already available.

The Friends have managed and developed the centre’s operations for more than 25 years, taking control and raising operating funds after federal funding was withdrawn in 1984. Our group represents a broad spectrum of the general public and environmental movement with more than 1,000 members and donors. The Visitor Centre is open year-round with hours dependant on season. Our annual fundraising events include: Sweetwater Harvest – From Sap to Syrup – in March and Wye Marsh Festival – An Environmental Celebration – third weekend in September. Please see our website at for details.
