The Couchiching Conservancy is a non-profit, community based land trust dedicated to protecting the special natural areas of the Couchiching watershed region for future generations. The Conservancy helps to protect more than 12,000 acres of natural lands across 40 properties in the Orillia region.
The Couchiching Conservancy has completed extensive biological inventory and private land stewardship programs on the Carden Plain and the Oro Moraine. It successfully nominated the Carden Plain as an Important Bird Area of national significance. It manages a conservation training centre in Grant's Woods, just west of Orillia, which provides office and meeting space within a 52 acre old growth forest.
The Conservancy has hosted several large public events, including an evening with David Suzuki, as well as hosting the annual gathering of the Ontario Land Trust Alliance. It relies on support from the public, local businesses, and foundation grants to achieve its goals.
