Nature Guelph

Town: Guelph

Ontario Nature Region: Great Lakes West

Nature Guelph is an active club. In 2006 we proudly celebrated 40 years of commitment to our community. The membership averages 125 members and the club meets on the SECOND THURSDAY of each month, except during the summer, at the Arboretum on the University of Guelph campus. Our Environment Committee is actively involved when it comes to advocating with local and regional governments on issues such as public education, land use challenges, and the environment.

The Indoor Program gives our members a chance to socialize with like-minded people and also to hear interesting guest speakers share their expertise when it comes to issues concerning the natural world. Attendance at monthly meetings averages one hundred people.

The Outdoor Program takes our members and others into the field to examine nature at the 'up close and personal' level.

Bird Wing meets on the third Monday of each month at the Ellington on Metcalfe Street. Frequent Wednesday outings visit the birding hot spots in surrounding areas.

Every other Saturday for September to June, about thirty children ages of six to ten have the opportunity to attend the Young Naturalists Program. Teens have their opportunity to experience the natural world in the Naturalists in Training Program. These children are fortunate to learn about nature by the qualified naturalists at the Guelph Lake Nature Centre which is owned and operated by the Grand River Conservation Authority.
