Lambton Wildlife Incorporated

Town: Sarnia

Ontario Nature Region: Carolinian West

Lambton Wildlife Incorporated (LWI) is a non-profit, field naturalist/environmentalist organization that owns and/or manages several environmentally important properties. The Port Franks Dunes and Karner Blue Sanctuary are in the Port Franks area, very near Pinery Provincial Park. Maudaumin Woods is on the eastern outskirts of Sarnia. The Howard Watson Nature Trail, which LWI manages for the city, follows and abandoned rail line through North Sarnia to the Village of Camlachie, a distance of 18 kilometres.

LWI has been active in southwestern Ontario since 1962. It is affiliated with the Ontario Nature, the Nature Conservancy of Canada and, more recently, Carolinian Canada. The club conducts well-attended indoor and outdoor public nature programs as well as sponsoring a Young Naturalist Club and awarding a bursary annually to a deserving high-school student. A newsletter, Earthways, is published monthly and for the last three years the club has published a weekly nature column in the Sarnia Observer. Several of our members are recognized authorities on topics ranging from botany, entomology and ornithology to wetlands and tallgrass prairie reclamation.
