Member Group Detail

Ingersoll District Nature Club

Town: Ingersoll

Ontario Nature Region: Carolinian West

Our membership is made up of individuals who are interested in the preservation of nature in this region. Each member contributes something to the group either through their knowledge of plants and animals or through their willingness to help with club projects.

The main focus of the group is to enjoy nature and to share that enjoyment with others. Activities include monthly expeditions to sites of interest for hiking, bird watching and plant identification. The club is also responsible for the stewardship of the Lawson Tract, a 14.5 hectare protected site belonging to Ontario Nature.

We have established and maintained trails within the Lawson Tract and work with owners of adjoining woodlands and farmlands to preserve the area. The public is encouraged to use the tract for passive recreation and nature appreciation. In a grassy, treeless area of about one hectare we have undertaken a wetlands creation project in co-operation with the Upper Thames Valley Conservation Authority.
