Lennox & Addington Stewardship Council

Town: Camden East

Ontario Nature Region: Ontario East

The Lennox & Addington Stewardship Council (LASC) is a community based volunteer organization. The council promotes responsible land care and stewardship of our natural resources, and use partners in a cooperative approach to projects.

Since its inception in 1995, the LASC has worked with local groups and individuals to foster healthy stewardship practices in the community.

Some recent successes include:
The Monarch Butterfly Breeding + Habitat Project: 14 elementary schools in Lennox and Addington County are receiving butterfly kits to observe the life cycle of the Monarch Butterfly, and 9 schools have planted butterfly gardens to help attract various pollinators.
Grassland Birds Species at Risk program: LASC led a 4-year study on Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark in habitat selection, population size, and breeding success in various habitats on Amherst and Wolfe Islands. Results were presented in local workshops.
Rain Barrels for Burn Barrels, an exchange program in which landowners trade their burn barrel for a rain barrel, or purchased a rain barrel at a discount price. To date, 1500 barrels have been sold or traded to the public.
