Friends of Esker Lakes Provincial Park

Town: Kirkland Lake

Ontario Nature Region: Northern - East

The Friends of Esker Lakes Provincial Park is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the natural and cultural heritage of Esker Lakes Provincial Park while supporting programs aimed at interpretive, recreational and protection activities in the park. Their objectives are to:

• Support the heritage appreciation and natural protection of the park.

• Develop community awareness, education and understanding of the park’s natural and cultural resources.

• Enhance the park’s environment and improve the overall visitor experience.

• Promote tourism in and around the park.

• Stimulate youth interest in outdoor activities and natural resource protection.

The group recently updated Esker Lakes Park’s Lonesome Bog Interpretive Trail by transforming the old paper guide into interpretive plaques, and renewing the content of all interpretive signage in the park. They are also developing signage aimed at educating park visitors about sensitive habitat and how to avoid damaging it during their explorations.
