Lakeside Community Garden

Town: Kingston

Ontario Nature Region: Ontario East

Established in 2010, Lakeside Community Garden aims to be the largest community garden in Kingston. With the potential to provide more than 100 families with local organic produce, the hope is that public engagement with gardening will promote community building, education and conservation of agricultural lands and wetlands, while cultivating awareness of healthy sustainable local food systems.

Lakeside Community Garden recently secured a $1,000 start-up grant from the City of Kingston, and in the spring of 2013, will make individual garden plots available to the general public. The group has ongoing partnerships with:

  • The Kingston Field Naturalists
  • Urban Agriculture Kingston
  • The Community Gardens Network
  • The National Farmers' Union
  • Loving Spoonful

Lakeside Community Garden supports and collaborates with local food networks, and conducts public education about environmentally sustainable food production.
