The Friends of Awenda Park

Awenda Provincial Park is an oasis in the midst of southern Ontario. A perfect get-away, Awenda is approximately two hours north of Toronto, close to the town of Penetanguishene. With great diversity in both terrain and natural ecosystems, Awenda visitors will be amazed at the different landscapes they will experience. Awenda is a natural environment class park, providing superb interpretive experiences. Awenda's cultural heritage, which includes numerous archeological sites, is amongst the richest and most diverse of any Ontario park. The presence of native people has been dated to 11,000 years before present.

The Friends of Awenda Park is a non-profit, charitable, volunteer organization working in cooperation with Ontario Parks and Awenda Provincial Park. The Friends are dedicated to further the public's awareness, education and understanding of the geological, cultural, historical, archeological, artistic and biological resources of Awenda Provincial Park. The Objectives of the Friends of Awenda Park include: supporting research projects related to Awenda's natural and historical resources to stimulate community interest and understanding of Awenda Park to help ensure the protection of its natural and historical resources and undertaking specific projects such as the production of educational and interpretive publications, maps, audio-visual materials and other appropriate items related to Awenda Park.
