Quinte Field Naturalists

Town: Belleville

Ontario Nature Region: Ontario East

In 1949 a small group of birdwatchers decided that the Belleville area needed a naturalist club. Originally called the Brown Thrasher Club, the group, now known as the Quinte Field Naturalists, still provides those interested in the environment a chance to share their enthusiasm and expand their knowledge of the flora and fauna in the Quinte region.

Our members support local programs like Earth Day, the H.R. Frink Outdoor Education Centre and the Prince Edward Point Bird Observatory as well as the Presqu'ile Waterfowl Viewing Weekend. Other projects include citizen science studies such as the Annual Christmas Bird Count, Baillie Birdathon, Marsh and Grassland Monitoring programs, Ontario Nocturnal Owl Survey and Project Feeder Watch.

Our newsletter, the Quinte Naturalist, is published seven times per year. Meetings are held at 7:30 pm on the fourth Monday of each month from September to March at Sills Auditorium, Bridge Street United Church, Belleville. In April, the annual dinnner meeting is held at an alternate time and location. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome.
