Bert Miller Nature Club of Fort Erie

Town: Fort Erie

Ontario Nature Region: Carolinian East

Anyone who knew Albert (Bert) Miller couldn't help but become interested in nature. His legacy lives on in the club that has been named in his honour. Our primary goals are the preservation of a significant local Carolinian forest site and the conservation of Fort Erie's natural resources

Fort Erie is a unique forest zone - one that few people recognize. Come out and learn more. Regular meetings are held at the Stevensville Conservation Club on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. You can learn what is happening in our area and also listen to knowledgeable speakers from all around the province. Topics range from insects to wildflowers to astronomy to Dutch Elm disease to birds. Currently, we are devoting our energies to the preservation of a locally significant Carolinian forest. The club is also involved in the preservation of a local woodlot called Shagbark Trail and in some aspects of the development of the local Friendship Trail. Educating the young has been an ongoing goal of our Junior Naturalist program. In spite of its growing size and growing number of large projects, the club continues to operate in a folksy, friendly manner. This dynamic club from a little town is quickly gaining a big reputation in the world of nature aficionados.
