Dear fellow nature lover,

While we’re all still enjoying the hot days of summer, one of our favourite seasons in Ontario is just around the corner! And there are ways for you to get – and stay – involved with Ontario Nature this autumn. Read on to make sure you don’t miss out!

Sydenham River Nature Reserve is almost ours

Thanks to our members and supporters, we’re pleased to report that together we have raised $750,000 of the $860,000 needed to acquire the Sydenham River Nature Reserve! We’re so close and have an exciting new opportunity that will help get us there! Thanks to a long-time Ontario Nature member, if you've never made a gift to Ontario Nature before, or if your gifts total no more than $250 in a given year, when you make a gift today of $1,000 or more your gift will be matched – doubling the impact of your support! You will also receive recognition for your gift on a special sign at the reserve. Every dollar counts so please take a moment today and protect your share. Thank you!

Greenbelt hanging in the balance

In May 2016, the Province released a set of draft changes to the plans that guide the future of the Greenbelt, Oak Ridges Moraine, Niagara Escarpment and the growth in the Greater Golden Horseshoe. (Click here for our reaction). Now is our final chance to tell the Ontario government to protect water, nature and communities. Add your voice by telling the government you want stronger landscapes, stronger laws and a stronger legacy for this region. In the face of climate change and a rapidly growing population, we will not have another chance to get these plans right. Join Earthroots, EcoSpark, STORM and Ontario Nature and submit comments to the Ontario government to help stop urban sprawl!

New tool to find volunteer work near you!

The Directory of Ontario Citizen Science, or DOCS for short, is an online tool connecting seasoned or budding citizen scientists with volunteer opportunities across Ontario. DOCS includes citizen science projects with biological, environmental or conservation goals. The directory already lists 24 fun projects taking place across Ontario, all looking for dedicated participants. For organizations interested in posting a project, you will first need to create an organization account by clicking here. Visit DOCS today and get started!
