Thomas Alley In Memory
When Tom Alley died from cancer at the age 45, he left a pathway among the many lives he touched. Tom came from a large family that included four siblings and six nieces and nephews. Family was very important to him, and this extended beyond his immediate family to all the families of friends he was close to. When speaking about Tom a close friend remembers his gentleness and loyalty, his genuine interest in people and the personal bonds he established.
Tom was known for his attention to detail, his lively intellectual curiosity, his interest in others, but above all his kindness and generosity. He also had his whimsical side, and had an appreciation for well-timed mischief and a good sense of humor. Among his many interests Tom enjoyed downhill skiing, photography, and traveling around the world.

Tom set a high standard for the art of giving to charities, and believed in contributing back to society by supporting a number of health and environmental causes over the years. He had a strong interest in conservation, and delighted in teaching his nieces and nephews about the natural world. A member of Ontario Nature for over 15 years, Tom generously remembered the organization through a bequest in his will. Tom was introduced to Ontario Nature by friend of the family, the late Ron Gaschen, and by his parents, Peter and Daphne, all long-time members. Ontario Nature is grateful for Tom’s generosity and honoured to be among the many groups and people whom he touched.
