Champions Of Nature Since 19312007-08 Annual General MeetingWe want to thank those that attended Ontario Nature’s 77th Annual General Meeting. This year’s event was held in conjunction with the Carden Nature Festival, at The Sir William Mackenzie Inn, located in Kirkfield, Ontario, on Saturday, June 7th, 2008.
The AGM took place in the afternoon, followed by the Youth Writing Contest and Ontario Nature Conservation Awards ceremony, and wine and cheese reception in the early evening. The night’s events included a banquet, which took place at the Kirkland Lion’s Club Hall. Ontario Nature, in association with the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, hosted a Youth Program for 60 kids between the ages of 6-14 that took place between 9:00 and 3:00 p.m. at the Carden Recreation Centre, and offered a variety of activities to young nature enthusiasts. Following the Youth Program the Wye Marsh provided a Wet n Scaly adventure on the grounds of the Sir William Mackenzie Inn to entertain the kids while their parents attended the Annual General Meeting. 2007 Conservation Award Winners and the 2007 Youth Writing Contest Winners
W.W.H. Gunn Conservation Award - Lou ProbstAwarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding personal service and a strong commitment to nature conservation over a number of years with exceptional results.
Richards Education Award – Jacob RodenburgAwarded to an individual who has succeeded in helping people understand the natural world and become enthusiastic supporters of conservation and environmental protection.
W.E. Saunders Natural History Award – Bob CurryAwarded to an individual who has achieved a significant goal related to an aspect of natural history or natural science research, raising public awareness of natural history, demonstrating local leadership, saving a natural area, or generating conservation funds or publications.
Lee Symmes Municipal Award – City of Orillia and Region of WaterlooAwarded to a municipality, town, city or region that exhibits community leadership and exceptional achievement in planning or implementing programs that protect and regenerate the natural environment within a community. J. R. Dymond Public Service Award – Junction Creek Stewardship CommitteeAwarded to an individual who shows distinguished public service that resulted in exceptional environmental achievement. Ontario Nature Achievement Award – Audrey E. WilsonAwarded to an Ontario Nature member who has made an outstanding contribution to the activities of Ontario Nature. Awards were presented to the winners at the Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 8th, 2007. Congratulations to the award recipients! Margaret and Carl Nunn Memorial Camp Scholarship Award – William Gardiner, Phoenix Jacobs Parkin, Grace Thornton and Cameron Gray.Awarded to youth who are 10-15 years of age, who display promise and interest in natural history interpretation or education and have the potential to take an increased leadership role in club programs. Awards were presented to the winners at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 7th at 5:00 p.m. Congratulations to the award recipients!

Awarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding personal service and a strong commitment to nature conservation over a number of years with exceptional results.
Awarded to an individual who has succeeded in helping people understand the natural world and become enthusiastic supporters of conservation and environmental protection.
Awarded to an individual who has achieved a significant goal related to an aspect of natural history or natural science research, raising public awareness of natural history, demonstrating local leadership, saving a natural area, or generating conservation funds or publications.
Awarded to a corporation demonstrating outstanding leadership or sound action in the environmental field and for protecting the natural environment either directly through corporate policies or through a major initiative(s), or indirectly through other undertakings that have stimulated significant environmental actions.
Awards were presented to the winners at the Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 8th, 2007. Congratulations to the award recipients!

Ontario Nature recognizes the important role youth have played and will continue to play in conserving nature in this province through the Ontario Nature Youth Challenge.
The Ontario Nature Youth Challenge is a writing contest for youth in grades 7 and 8 on the topic “What will the environment be like in 2050?”
The essay winners were chosen by the selection committee and they will be presented with an award at the Youth Awards Ceremony after the banquet. The essays will also be printed in the fall issue of ON Nature and will be posted on the Ontario Nature website.
1st Place – Jenna from Whitby for her essay entitled Weeping Wetlands 2nd Place – L. Jarvis from London for her essay entitled Just Change 3rd Place – Dylan from London for his essay entitled The World in 2050
Awards were presented to the winners at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, June 9th, 2007.
The following essays were selected as Honourable Mention Winners and their essays will be posted on the Ontario Nature website.
