We have a vernal pool in her backyard and love the noises at night
We live in Wainfleet, Ontario and have loads of vernal pools! Incredibly lucky to have these just steps away from our back door…. except they breed an incredible about of mosquitoes! At dusk, the bat display for feeding is spectacular!
We believe we have a vernal pool in Ancaster Ontarion which needs protecting from development.
If you can assist, I will send info.
We have a number of vernal pools around our cottage and it is amazing to hear the number of different frog species that call in the spring and early summer. They also allow a lot of plants to grow around the edge which brings in birds and insects. We actually stopped the township from putting in a culvert that would have drained one rather significant vernal pool beside a road. Instead they put in an overflow drain so the water would not come over the road.
